ELDEPASCO Offshore Wind Farm – at greater depths |

Over the summer 2010, GEO performed its first offshore site investigations in Belgium. In collaboration with Calegeo, GEO carried out the geotechnical site investigations for the offshore wind farm, Eldepasco. It is located approximately 40 km. off the Belgian coast at depths up to 29 metres. Geotechnical site investigationsFirstly, GEO carried out 28 CPT-tests and vibrocorings along the cable route using our seabed rig GEOceptor. It performs both CPT and vibrocore. Subsequently, GEO supervised the geotechnical boring campaign carried out by Calegeo in the area where the turbines are to be placed. GEO’s role was to run the project and ensure the quality required by GEO itself and our client, Eldepasco N.V. Borings up to 48 metres were achieved. |

Drilling vesselThe borings were conducted from the drilling vessel Highland Spirit which can maintain its position also during waves and current. The drill head also compensates for the ship’s movement allowing drilling in up to 2 metres high waves. Eldepasco N.V.The Eldepasco Offshore Wind Farm is constructed by the consortium Eldepasco N.V. and will consist of 72 turbines. The wind farm will have a capacity of 216 MW and will be able to meet the annual electricity needs of about 200.000 households. |
